Our Door Installation Process
Over the years, our door contracting team has perfected their door installation process, allowing us to work quickly and mess-free when it comes to swapping exterior and interior doors. As each door is designed to fit your rough opening, our team can prep, set and install your door in a matter of hours, and have you enjoying a fully functional and beautiful new door by the afternoon.
Prep
The first step of any door installation process is to prep the rough opening. This will include removing the old door and its hardware and checking that the floor is level and the surrounding studs are sound. If we are dealing with an uneven floor, we may need to trim the bottom of the jams to square the opening.
Set the Door
Next, you will want to set the door into the opening and make sure we have the right-sized door for it. Ideally, we will be flush with the wall and centered. If we are not, we will make some small adjustments until the door fits perfectly.
Secure and Shim
Once the door is centered, we will insert shims at each hinge location and fasten the hinge jamb to the studs. We will then shim the latch side of the door at the top, middle, and bottom to ensure a gap between the door and the frame and secure the door with screws.
Install Hardware and trim
Once the door is swinging freely, we will install the handle set into the door, check that the mechanism closes properly, and install casing and trim to hide the shims. Once done, you will have a perfect-looking door that is free-swinging, lockable, and functional.
